Jackie Riley | Counsellor & Psychosexual Therapist
My name is Jackie Riley and I have been a practising Counsellor and Psychosexual Therapist for over 20 years. I work as a Counsellor and Psychosexual Therapist for both individuals and couples on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of helping people address whatever brings them to me, whether that be to overcome anxiety, move on from a broken relationship, work towards a specific goal or deal with a sexual problem or cope with infertility.
Since training in EMDR I have become more and more interested in how traumas of any and every kind can affect all areas of a persons life. It is a wonderful therapy that can transform people. From experiencing flashbacks and nightmares and feeling terrible about themselves to being able to let go and move on and enjoy life once more.
I originally trained as a nurse and worked in this profession for some years at sister level. I then trained as a Counsellor for individuals and couples and subsequently a Psychosexual Therapist. I have worked as a Therapist predominantly for the NHS in GP surgeries and in private practice.
I am thus used to having to help clients in a short space of time as the NHS is usually very time limited or for much longer term work when that is what is needed and is possible. Sometimes people only need a few sessions to deal with their troubles as I can help clients find that inner strength and ability to sort things out for themselves.
I believe counselling is a good way of getting in touch with our own strengths and our own answers to our problems. It helps you find your way if the path seems a bit hard to find! Deep down most of us know what to do but often life can seem confusing or overwhelming and we need the opportunity to refect and explore. I can provide this and an impartial but caring ear. Together we can navigate the way and find the right one for you.
We all just need some support, understanding and time and space to work things out.
